Some men just do not care to be one... I want to think that someone will not be afraid to take a stand. I want to think that someone will still care, even if dying is the ultimate price of it. I want to believe that someone has still the courage to do what is right, to do what is good, to do it willingly, to be another Ninoy or Philip. I want to care, despite knowing that others do not care. I want to believe that someone can somehow do something, even if others doubt they can do something right. I doubted, but knowing that someone did something good, brings courage back in my heart, brings that care to be someone who can be a hero in my own right. I salute those who died for our country. I do not want to let it come to naught. Some men are born heroes…

He is the epitome of idealism among the youth of this generation. Many people (myself included)would probably just turn a blind eye to what he saw - but he didn't. I pray for his soul - and pray that he being one of the 'unknown saints' will pray for me, too. I also pray that justice be finally served - not to the perpetrators because they shall have it - but so that his name can be wiped clean and his loved ones consoled. I salute him! As a Naval Officer with deep roots in Manila, this news is truly tragic. ENS Pestano was trying to live his life as a Naval officer, bent on sticking to his personal values when it was cut short, presumably by those whom he trusted, and served with. I don't know if this case would ever see closure. As a career military officer, the biggest indictment on the system is the fact that fellow academy grads were implicated. These are supposed brothers-in-arms that ENS Pestano spent four years of his life with. If you can't trust fellow "ring knockers", then who can you trust? To read something like this makes me sad as a military officer, but sadder as a Filipino. To Mr. and Mrs. Pestano - as tragic as this story is, I commend you for raising a son who lived his life with uncommon character and unwavering integrity. I hope you somehow find peace.
